New build window dressings
made simple

New build blinds, curtains for new build homes, shutters for new build homes and full house window dressings for new builds all start in the same place: choosing the right products in the actual property, in the actual light. Moving into a new build home means making a lot of decisions at once. Windows are often one of the last things on the list, even though bare windows mean no privacy from the day you move in. Developers rarely include window dressings in the package, so it falls to you, often just as you are trying to sort furniture, flooring and everything else.

That is exactly where a home consultation makes sense. Rather than making decisions online or visiting a showroom with a rough idea of what your windows look like, Ria comes to you. In practice, she brings fabric books, blind samples, shutter finishes and BlindScreen® options, works through the house room by room with you and gives you clear advice and an honest quote at the end. In short, a showroom experience without the showroom visit.

Help before and after moving day

Full house blinds and new home curtains and blinds packages are a core part of what we do. Whether you want to dress every room on day one or prioritise the bedrooms and living areas first, we can plan the project to suit your budget and timeline. Above all, avoiding rushed or poor choices early on usually saves money and disappointment later.

Why accurate measuring matters
in a new build

New build homes have a few quirks worth knowing about. For example, windows, reveals, sill depths and room layouts can vary even between properties on the same development. Handles, trickle vents and window restrictors can affect which products work and how they need to be fitted. We check all of this during the visit, so there are no surprises on installation day.

Window reveals and recesses

New build windows often have shallower reveals than older properties. In practice, some products fit inside the recess cleanly while others work better face-fitted above the window. As a result, we measure both options and advise on what gives the best finish for each room.

Handles, vents and restrictors

Trickle vents, window handles and child restrictor catches can all affect where blinds or shutters sit. For that reason, we note these during measuring so the finished product works properly with the window as it was built.

Consistent finishes across rooms

Even with the same house type, rooms can vary in how they feel and the light they receive. Because of this, we measure and advise room by room so the finished result is coherent across the whole house, not just technically correct window by window.

Pre-completion measuring

Ria holds a CSCS card, which means site measuring before you move in may be possible, subject to the site manager’s approval. In practice, that gives you the option of having blinds or shutters fitted from day one of moving in.

“They are all made to measure & Ria personally measures the windows herself – no guesstimating & measuring yourself like a lot of other companies ask you to do.”

Blind options for
new build homes

New build blinds are one of our most popular requests across Cambridge, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, where new estates often need privacy and light control sorted from the day you move in. These are some of the most popular choices for new build properties. In practice, you can dress the whole house at once or start with the rooms that matter most and add to it over time. For the complete picture, explore our full blinds range.

Roller Blinds

Clean, practical and easy to live with. Roller blinds in blackout, light-filtering or solar fabric are a popular choice across kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms. They sit neatly when raised and give a tidy, modern finish that suits the clean lines of most new builds.

Faux Wood Venetians

A consistently popular choice for kitchens, bathrooms and family spaces. Faux wood Venetians offer good light control, are moisture-resistant and have a smart, neutral finish that complements most new build colour schemes without competing with them.

Perfect Fit Blinds

Perfect Fit blinds clip directly into the window frame without brackets or drilling. Particularly well suited to uPVC windows, which are standard on most new builds. They move with the window when you open it and leave no gaps at the sides.

Blackout Blinds

New build bedrooms and nurseries often need proper blackout, especially on south or west-facing rooms with more evening light. We advise on the most effective options for each window, including Perfect Fit blackout for uPVC frames where side-light bleed is a concern.

Privacy Solutions

Overlooked plots, corner positions and homes near pathways often need something that gives privacy without making rooms feel dark. Day and night blinds, light-filtering fabrics and carefully chosen Romans can solve this without blocking the light.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds work well on wider windows, patio door windows and home office spaces. Practical, adjustable and available in a range of fabrics including blackout and screen options.

Curtains, shutters and
finishing touches

Many new build customers start with practical blinds because they need privacy quickly, then come back to add curtains, shutters or more decorative finishes once the furniture is in, the flooring is laid and the colour scheme starts to settle. That is a perfectly sensible approach, and we can plan for it from the start.

A smoother way to dress your new home

Plantation shutters have become increasingly popular in new builds, particularly for front-facing rooms, bay windows and anywhere that benefits from a more considered, lasting finish. They add privacy, light control and a clean look that holds up well as the rest of the room evolves around them.

Made-to-measure curtains and Roman blinds are popular for living rooms, primary bedrooms and dining spaces where a softer, more dressed feel is the goal. When Ria arrives in Luther, our fully electric Ria’s Interiors van, she brings the showroom with her: fabric books, blind samples, shutter finishes and BlindScreen® options, all ready to view in your own home.

Shutters for new build homes

Made-to-measure shutters have become one of the most popular choices for new build homes, and it is easy to see why. They offer privacy, gentle light control, a clean fitted look and a little kerb appeal from the outside, without the bulk of heavy curtains. Once they are in, they tend to keep looking right as the rest of the room settles around them.

Plantation shutters for new build homes work especially well in front-facing rooms, bedrooms, lounges, bay windows and home offices, where privacy and a calm, considered finish matter most. In other rooms, a simple blind or a soft curtain may do the job just as well for less, and we will always say so.

Ria brings real shutter panels and finishes to your home, measures every window properly and talks through where shutters are genuinely worth the investment and where blinds or curtains may make more sense. There is no pressure to dress the whole house at once, and no push towards the most expensive option.

If you would like shutters fitted soon after moving in, our UK-made shutter range is usually available from around 3 to 4 weeks, which often suits new build timescales better than imported options. More about our shutters →

BlindScreen® for bifolds,
patio doors and sunny rooms

New build homes frequently include bifold doors, wide patio doors or large south-facing glazing. These are wonderful to live with, but they can create problems with glare, heat, privacy and unwanted insects in summer. BlindScreen® is designed specifically for these openings. It sits neatly within the frame, operates independently of the doors and makes a real practical difference.

As a BlindScreen® Gold Partner, we bring physical samples to the home visit so you can see exactly how the fabric options look before committing to anything.

Stronger Blackout Control

Blackout fabric options are available for rooms where stronger light control matters, such as bedrooms, nurseries, home offices and media rooms. Final performance depends on the opening, fabric choice, fitting position and any gaps around the system.

Thermal Comfort

Thermal fabric options help reduce heat build-up through large glazed areas in summer and improve comfort in colder months, particularly for south-facing kitchen extensions.

Privacy Fabric

Reduce the view in from outside without losing the light. Particularly useful for ground-floor living spaces and garden-facing rooms on overlooked plots.

Flyscreen Options

Keep flies, mosquitoes and wasps out without closing the doors. Flyscreen mesh is available as a standalone track or combined with a second fabric on a dual-track system.

Dual-Track Systems

Combine two fabrics on a single frame: flyscreen mesh on one track, privacy or blackout fabric on the other. Use either, both or neither depending on the time of day.

New Build Ready

Measured and fitted to your specific opening. Suitable for bifolds, patio doors, large kitchen glazing and garden rooms, all common in new build properties.

Careful, tidy fitting

Our fitter uses separate indoor house shoes for inside appointments and takes real pride in leaving the working area clean and tidy. He also knows his way around new build construction, from plasterboard and dot-and-dab walls to the lintels above windows and doors, so fixings go where it is safe and appropriate to drill rather than where guesswork lands. If anything ever needs attention after the job is done, we come back.

Evening and weekend appointments: Selected evening and weekend slots are available, which is particularly useful for customers working around new build completion dates, moving schedules or a busy working week.

Absolutely. Full house packages are a core part of what we do. We can work through every room with you, from the kitchen and bathrooms through to bedrooms and the main living spaces, finding the right product for each one. Often. We are experienced with new build properties and can work from developer plans, plot drawings or house type specifications where useful. This is particularly helpful for planning full house packages ahead of completion.

It depends on the room. Roller blinds and faux wood Venetians are popular for kitchens and everyday living spaces. Perfect Fit blinds work well on uPVC windows without any drilling. Blackout rollers or Perfect Fit blackout options are popular for bedrooms and nurseries. Blinds are often the more practical and affordable choice for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. We bring samples to your home and give honest advice room by room, with no push towards the most expensive option.
